Frequently Asked Questions
We get it — there’s nothing worse than looking in the mirror and seeing dry, flaky skin. But where does it come from? Dry skin can be caused by various factors, including:
- Environmental factors: Exposure to dry or low-humidity environments, especially during winter when indoor heating is used, is known to deplete the moisture content in the air and lead to dry skin.
- Hot water and harsh soaps: Frequent or prolonged exposure to hot water and harsh soaps can strip the skin of its natural oils, resulting in dryness. Many drugstore products are full of harmful ingredients that dry out the skin. That’s why it’s best to invest in an advanced skin hydration system, formulated with gentle and hydrating ingredients.
- Age: As we age, our skin tends to produce less natural oil, making it more prone to dryness. If aging skin is a concern for you, consider investing in an anti-aging skincare set.
- Weather conditions: Cold, dry weather conditions can cause moisture loss from the skin, leading to dryness and flakiness.
- Genetics: Some individuals may have a genetic predisposition to dry skin, as their skin may naturally produce less oil or have a weaker moisture barrier function.
- Certain medical conditions: Dry skin can be a symptom of underlying medical conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, thyroid disorders, diabetes, or malnutrition.
- Irritants and allergens: Contact with irritants like harsh chemicals, certain fabrics, or allergens can disrupt the skin’s moisture balance and trigger dryness or allergic reactions.
- Medications: Certain medications, such as diuretics, antihistamines, and retinoids, can have drying effects on the skin as a side effect.
Practicing good skincare habits and investing in high-quality hydrating skincare products can help alleviate dryness. A science-backed skincare set like The Hydration System is specifically designed to treat dry skin and get that glow back!
Healthy lifestyle habits and an effective skin hydration system are essential for more than just beautiful skin. There are several reasons why it’s important to keep the skin hydrated:
- Moisture barrier function: The outermost layer of the skin acts as a protective barrier against environmental factors such as pollutants, UV radiation, and pathogens. When the skin lacks hydration, this barrier can become compromised, leading to dryness, flakiness, and increased susceptibility to irritants and infections.
- Skin elasticity and plumpness: Well-hydrated skin appears more plump, supple, and youthful. Adequate hydration helps maintain the skin's elasticity by promoting the production of collagen and elastin, which are essential proteins for maintaining skin structure and preventing sagging and wrinkles.
- Prevention of dryness and discomfort: Dry skin can be itchy, tight, and uncomfortable. Proper hydration helps alleviate these symptoms and promotes a more comfortable and healthy skin condition.
- Improved skin tone and complexion: When the skin is hydrated, it appears more radiant and has an even tone. Proper hydration can minimize the appearance of dullness, roughness, and discoloration, giving the skin a healthier and more vibrant look.
- Control of oil production: Dehydrated skin can trigger an overproduction of sebum, the skin's natural oil. This can lead to clogged pores, acne breakouts, and an oily complexion. By keeping the skin properly hydrated, you can help balance oil production and reduce the likelihood of these issues.
To maintain skin hydration, it is important to drink enough water, avoid excessive exposure to hot water and harsh soaps, and protect your skin from excessive sun exposure by using sunscreen. However, you will see results faster when you establish a dedicated skin care routine for dry skin that uses top-of-the-line products.
Finding the right skin care for a dry face can help repair and strengthen the skin's barrier function. A skin hydration system typically includes products designed to replenish and lock in moisture, thereby improving the skin's hydration levels and supporting barrier repair. However, you should consider investing in a dedicated system like the Skin Barrier Repair Kit, featuring research-backed products packed with hydrating skincare ingredients designed to bring that skin barrier back to life.
